Drum brake cooling, retrofit kit 90 mm and 70 mm
Sturmey Archer drum brakes heat up relatively quickly. This drastically reduces their braking effect.
The heat sinks that can be retrofitted to the spoked wheel help to ensure that the brake heats up less and can cool down more quickly. The heat is dissipated directly on the circumference of the drum by black anodized aluminum heat sinks.
If the heat sink is retrofitted, the cooling surface of a 90 mm drum brake increases by approx. 240 cm². After assembly, the wheel is 115 grams heavier.
With a 70 mm drum, there is an additional 180 cm² cooling surface and the additional weight remains well under 100 grams.
For a drum size of 90 mm, a set with 16 heat sinks, an adjustable hose clamp and a syringe with heat-conducting paste is supplied per wheel.
With the smaller diameter (70 mm) there are 12 heat sinks, an adjustable hose clamp and a syringe with thermal paste.
Although assembly should be carried out carefully and exactly according to the assembly instructions, it is uncomplicated and can be easily completed on both wheels within an hour using simple tools. The chiller can be dismantled without leaving any residue or damage and reused. Only the thermal paste cannot be reused.
